S01E11 - Long Johns and Lost Friends

Jay:

Welcome back to Legend Lunchbox. Last time, the crew followed the old road through the Weepingwood Forest and finally reached Willowfoot Stands, a town that seems much too big for the number of people still living there. They found empty berths, quiet streets, warm windows, and a whole market square full of locals wondering how anyone could arrive without a ship at the port. Now with the S.S. Distress still waiting in the woods, the crew needs to find food, shelter, and someone who knows how to repair a ship like theirs. All eyes turn towards the newcomers. One member of the crew is about to become very easy to lose in the crowd.

Guide (Chris):

Whispers continue to ripple through the square. Who are they? They don't look like forest folk. There's nothing docked at the port. You stand near the edge of Willowfoot's Market Square, road weary and hungry, smelling of forest pine, river water, and campfire smoke.

Guide (Chris):

The quieter sections of town behind you fade back into darkened buildings and overgrown storefronts, but ahead of you, the town is very much alive. Lanterns glow from nearby storefronts. Beyond the square, the airship port with its mooring posts, landing circles, and lit signal lamps sit empty, but carefully maintained. Off to one side, past old fencing and warning signs, a darker stretch of repair building sits quiet with rusted frames, heavy doors, and tall shapes like crane arms and treatment tanks. The people around you keep their distance, but do not stop looking your way.

Guide (Chris):

The small child points at you again and says a little louder this time. Mama, where did these people come from? So what do you all do?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I wave enthusiastically at the kid. I love people who are smaller than me. I'm used to being the smaller one.

Guide (Chris):

He waves back. Hi!

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm not sure how you're supposed to hug strangers, so I just keep waving. That's it. That's all I got.

Guide (Chris):

The kid keeps waving back.

CAM (Tito):

I'm looking around at their feet to see if they're they're they have tiny feet with three toes.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

So they're standing around. They look, I mean, they're mostly humans. There's a few other races, but you don't notice any tiny feet. I mean, there are, of course, some smaller people. The kid's got tiny feet. You assume he has five toes, though, because he's human.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

I shall be the ambassador. And I get down off my floating board, and I go, hello, good people of what's it what's this place called again?

CAM (Tito):

Willowfert Stands.

Rolo (Phil):

Willowfert Stand.

Guide (Chris):

And somebody goes, it's Willowfoot!

Rolo (Phil):

Willowfoot...

CAM (Tito):

Oh, yeah. There we go.

Rolo (Phil):

Foot Stand. I am Rolo, and these are my companions. We have come from the sky, and our ship has seen better days, and we need help. And that's my time.

Guide (Chris):

So a dwarf shopkeeper is standing there, and he's leaning on a broom. So you came down out of the sky, huh?

Rolo (Phil):

Yes, sir. We did.

CAM (Tito):

Rather quickly.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, crashed.

Rolo (Phil):

I, yes. You could call it crash.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Because normally, folks land over here at the port, and he points back over his shoulder.

Squawk (Madeleine):

We're not normal people. We do things our way.

Rolo (Phil):

News for next time. We will attempt to dock at the port. Yes.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Super sorry.

Guide (Chris):

How long you've been out there? You kinda smell like the forest.

Rolo (Phil):

How long have we? Like, a week?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I think it's just been a few days. I mean, it feels like a week.

Guide (Chris):

I mean, you guys did come from a swamp. I don't believe anybody's taking a shower or a bath.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, I thought this was, like, a primitive village, and these people are judging our...

Guide (Chris):

No. I mean, it's a decent sized town.

Rolo (Phil):

Are you saying this out loud? Woah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. I I am. I don't like people telling me. They used to tell me that at bird school. You smell like crabs.

Rolo (Phil):

I I I try to close Squawk's beak with my hand. Shh...

Squawk (Madeleine):

Look at... Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. I'm trying trying to make friends. Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

Inside voice!

Guide (Chris):

So the the dwarf guy stares at you, he goes, well, if you need something to eat, maybe a warm bed and probably a bath, you'll wanna go over to the Shadetree. Did I mention they have baths?

CAM (Tito):

Yes. Twice.

Rolo (Phil):

Point taken, fine shopkeeper. We stink is what you're trying to get at, and that's cool, man. I'm used to being in the ocean several times a day, so I would love a bath.

CAM (Tito):

I mean, I I don't even have a real body. How do I have body odor?

Rolo (Phil):

Well, you do smell a little bit like burning oil.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

If we all have to share the same bathtub, you are last, though.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Are there any bird baths at this Shadetree place? Because I am not sharing a bathtub. I really love these guys. I really love them.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, they got baths, you know, and Squawk. So as you're standing there, this bee comes flying right by you, and it, like, bonks right into your helmet.

Squawk (Madeleine):

And I panic and dive under a bench.

Rolo (Phil):

Squawk, what's wrong?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Nothing. I resume my most heroic muscley pose, turning bright red. No one can see because I've got feathers, luckily, but underneath, I am bright red. Nothing happened. I had a spell. Just just forget about it.

CAM (Tito):

A spell?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Didn't happen.

CAM (Tito):

Are you are you dizzy?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I just I just was I just had a little moment.

CAM (Tito):

Maybe she's a little faint. She needs some food. We should probably head to that inn.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I do need some food.

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah. Let's go to this inn. We're we're under the tree, the Shadetree.

Guide (Chris):

He he points right down the road, and you see, like, a couple of signs down. You can see where it is. Somebody else in the crowd is like, did you guys bring any trade goods?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Any trade goods?

CAM (Tito):

We got some long johns.

Rolo (Phil):

We do have a bevy of long johns!

Squawk (Madeleine):

Why are we revealing? Shouldn't we have waited? They're such treasures.

Guide (Chris):

And you hear, like, whispers in the crowd. And the the dwarf shopkeeper, he's like, you got long johns? We've been waiting for a shipment of gold labels, and they never came in.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh!

Rolo (Phil):

Well, I happen to be the gold label brand ambassador.

Guide (Chris):

You see, the crowd suddenly gets really they're all like they're now they're starting to crowd in around you. How many do you have? What sizes do you have?

Rolo (Phil):

We must barter these long johns for food and lodging, but we will be back, good people. And thank you for letting me know how much these might be worth because that will really help us in the negotiation.

Guide (Chris):

So some teenage kid goes right away, long johns! Somebody's got long johns! And he runs off out out of the square.

Rolo (Phil):

Uh-oh.

Squawk (Madeleine):

He's gonna tell the world, guys.

CAM (Tito):

It must get rather cold around here or something.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Or must they have another use that we don't know about?

Rolo (Phil):

Well, I did make it into this handy bag.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I know. I mean, it's a nice bag.

Rolo (Phil):

I call it a long satchel.

CAM (Tito):

Let's go to the inn. Get some food.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Let's check out this inn.

Guide (Chris):

So the Shadetree Inn looks like it used to be something else. The building is square, sturdy, and official looking, but time and care have softened it. Inside, this appears to be an old cafeteria that's been warmed up with local wood, handpainted signs, woven banners, and tables and chairs that don't particularly match. A large faded W mark is still etched into the wall, looking like the Willowcraft sign. It's half covered by shelves, lanterns, and a hanging row of mugs.

Guide (Chris):

Behind the metal counter, a human woman in her early thirties talks animatedly to two locals in work overalls. Her eyes flick up noticing your presence, and she offers a slight smile and a nod before looking back to the pair in front of her with a groaning laugh from some joke that was just told. So do you guys just go grab a seat? Do you go talk to the woman? What do you guys do?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I immediately insert myself because I love jokes. What are you guys laughing at?

Guide (Chris):

So the woman looks at you, and she's like, well, go ahead, Jojo. You tell him. So this one guy looks over. He leans in his chair, and he he's what do you do to get rid of Sap Runners?

Squawk (Madeleine):

What do you do?

Guide (Chris):

You don't. They just stick around. Get it? Sap Runners, they stick around. And the woman just kinda shakes her head and goes Oh...

Squawk (Madeleine):

We didn't have puns on my lagoon, but I think that's probably what one of those are. Good effort. And I give him a hug because I feel bad about his lame jokes.

Guide (Chris):

Woah. Why, thank you. So the woman kinda looks at you and says, Y'all, look like you lost a fight with a road or a tree or maybe both. What can I do for you?

CAM (Tito):

We're gonna need a you know, maybe a table for dinner and some rooms for four.

Guide (Chris):

You need room for four. Four?

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

I only see three of you.

Rolo (Phil):

What?

Guide (Chris):

So you guys look around, and Lysander is not there.

CAM (Tito):

Where did he go?

Rolo (Phil):

Where did Lysander go?

Squawk (Madeleine):

He's probably just in the bathroom, guys.

Rolo (Phil):

I go check the bathroom.

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Is he there?

Rolo (Phil):

No.

Guide (Chris):

Nope. Nobody in the bathroom.

Rolo (Phil):

I could go check outside.

Guide (Chris):

So you go outside, Rolo. As you walk outside, you just notice there's, like, bees all over the place.

Rolo (Phil):

Woah.

Guide (Chris):

And you see this one bee flying and being chased by a bunch of other bees.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. I look for Lysander. I don't know why I'm looking at bees. I mean, they're just doing their bee things, man. Do I see Lysander?

Guide (Chris):

You do not. But that one bee that was being chased suddenly comes flying right at you.

Rolo (Phil):

Well, I run back in and slam the door.

Guide (Chris):

You hear right on the outside of the door.

Squawk (Madeleine):

What's wrong, Rolo, Rolo? We are very alarmed by Rolo.

Rolo (Phil):

I know. Bees are pollinating or something, but there's no Lysander outside.

Guide (Chris):

So woman's like, you lose one of your friends?

Rolo (Phil):

Yes. We lost him. We assume he will come back, but for now, we will get still rooms for four.

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

He'll come I'm sure he's just out.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. He might just be wandering around town. A lot of good stuff to look at.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Maybe he's trading. Maybe he's getting intel about the stuff we need for the thing in the are we allowed to say what we need?

CAM (Tito):

I'm not sure we need to be very secretive about it.

Rolo (Phil):

What stuff? What thing?

Guide (Chris):

What stuff are y'all looking for?

Squawk (Madeleine):

With the sparkly the sparkly woody paint to make us fly. Maybe I bet he's investigating. He's probably talking to people to get info.

Rolo (Phil):

Of course.

Guide (Chris):

Sparkly woody paint to make you fly? You're a bird.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, our our ship, it's broken.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, what kind of ship did you come on in?

Squawk (Madeleine):

A disappointing vessel, it was.

Guide (Chris):

Well, at least you know what you came in on so you know what you got to work with. That's always good.

Rolo (Phil):

It's even more disappointing now.

Guide (Chris):

I didn't see you come in. Where'd you guys come in?

CAM (Tito):

Point over in the direction of the woods.

Guide (Chris):

Oh!

Rolo (Phil):

We came in a little short.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, well, that's not good. That's too bad. Well, I I mean, if you need repairs or help with the ship, you're gonna wanna talk to Trevor over at the port. I I wouldn't talk to him tonight, though. That old storm cloud, he gets even more ornery when the sun goes down, and he kinda wakes up half ornery as it is.

Squawk (Madeleine):

What?

Rolo (Phil):

She said that he wakes up orangey.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. I just don't I just don't like the sound of this.

Rolo (Phil):

Well, orangey, it does not sound like a good way to wake up.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. What yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

He goes to bed, orangey, and he wakes up orangey.

Guide (Chris):

Ornery. Not not orangey. Ornery.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Are there any non ornery people who know things?

Guide (Chris):

Trevor, runs the port. You're gonna wanna talk to him. I mean, he's got some good folks working for him. I mean, he's good too. I I mean, he ain't bad. He just...

Squawk (Madeleine):

Ornery.

Guide (Chris):

Cranky sometimes.

Rolo (Phil):

Ornery? What the heck does that even mean?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Aren't you the reading guy?

Rolo (Phil):

Well.

Squawk (Madeleine):

With your with your words?

Rolo (Phil):

The think with the reading guys, when he gets a new word, he likes to write it down. What's it? Ornery?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Ornery.

CAM (Tito):

How do you spell that?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Or It's like it means, like, irritable.

Rolo (Phil):

It's when you're you need more orns.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Orn ree. No. O r n r e e. Ornery.

Rolo (Phil):

Ornery.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh.

Rolo (Phil):

So is that a good thing?

CAM (Tito):

No. It's not a good thing. It means he's grumpy and kinda mean.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, grumpy. Dude, why didn't you just say grumpy?

Guide (Chris):

Oh, I I don't know.

Rolo (Phil):

I write it down in the back of my book. Ornery equals grumpy.

CAM (Tito):

It's usually a symptom of several several fevers.

Squawk (Madeleine):

What?

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. So we we're gonna go get some rooms and baths.

Guide (Chris):

Just grab a table. I'll get you some food, get you something warm to eat, and I'll have somebody. And she calls one of the kids. Like, Joseph, go fix up a couple of rooms. Kid runs off, scoots off, so ah, what what you guys want?

Guide (Chris):

Ale, water, juice? What you looking for?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I'm a pescatarian, so was wondering...

Guide (Chris):

I don't have no fish juice.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Any you don't have any oh, juice. I didn't mean I just any shellfish would be amazing. But oh, you mean in terms of...

Guide (Chris):

I was talking about drinks, but let me think. See, I I I don't think we got any shellfish. We did get some trout in the other day.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Perfect.

Guide (Chris):

Alright.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'll take a trout milkshake.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, oh... Alright, I'll see what I can do.

Rolo (Phil):

I will take a seat as far away from her as possible.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Just like in school. It's like the lunch cafeteria.

Rolo (Phil):

If you have milk, I would love a glass of milk.

Guide (Chris):

We do. You're okay with goat milk. Alright?

Rolo (Phil):

I oh, yes. Alright. That's my third favorite kind of milk.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, what are your first two?

Rolo (Phil):

Cow, and I don't wanna talk about it.

Guide (Chris):

And she looks at at you, CAM. Oh, what can I get for you?

CAM (Tito):

Water would be fine. And any types of vegetables you may have.

Guide (Chris):

Well, we got lots of that. So alright. I'll be back. So she kinda leaves you alone in the room, and you see the two two folks sitting at the bar kinda look at you a little bit, but then they go back to talking. So so what are you guys gonna do?

Guide (Chris):

You're in in town. Got finally, table. You got some warm food coming. You might have some beds. You're missing your naturalist.

CAM (Tito):

We got all this food, and Lysander's missing out.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, wait. Should we have ordered for him? What's he like?

CAM (Tito):

I have no idea.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, I don't know. What do shapeshifters?

Rolo (Phil):

I'm a I'm gonna get I'm gonna get him a glass of milk.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

CAM (Tito):

There you go. Can't go wrong with that.

Rolo (Phil):

A barkeeperer?

Guide (Chris):

Yep.

Rolo (Phil):

You only have goat's milk?

Guide (Chris):

No.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, good.

Guide (Chris):

I got barkback milk too.

Rolo (Phil):

You you got what?

Guide (Chris):

Barkback.

Rolo (Phil):

Bark barkback milk. Woah. Because my I'm gonna have to add that to the list because it's it's it's cow, oat, goat, almond, and I guess barkback milk.

CAM (Tito):

Wait wait a minute. Bark back?

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Barkback.

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah. I'm gonna get a barkback milk.

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

CAM (Tito):

That that bear we saw, it kinda had hard armor, like, bark on its back.

Guide (Chris):

Oh no. We wouldn't get no milk from a bear. I mean, I guess you could try, but it's probably not safe.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. I thought that might have been odd.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. No. Barkback. You you ain't seen them?

CAM (Tito):

Apparently not.

Guide (Chris):

Y'know big, four legs, big antlers.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Antlers?

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No.

Rolo (Phil):

And if you if you bark at them, do they do they...

Guide (Chris):

Bark back?

Rolo (Phil):

Do they bark back?

Guide (Chris):

Jojo at the bar is like, oh, oh. That was good.

CAM (Tito):

So do all the animals around here have bark for skin?

Guide (Chris):

Oh, no. I mean, we got I mean, the trout don't have it. The flamingo here don't have it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. I do not.

Guide (Chris):

I mean, yeah, lots of regular animals. There's just some that are native here that you know, the sap and with the bark and you know?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Do you milk all of them?

Guide (Chris):

No.

Rolo (Phil):

Just the mammals.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So many milks.

Guide (Chris):

Yep.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay. So excited for my milkshake. I don't think you asked what we're gonna do. I don't do we need to I mean, I think we should just party. We have we it's been hard. It's been hard times, guys. All that stuff we had to carry.

Rolo (Phil):

You got it. K. Can you pour that milk into small glasses?

Guide (Chris):

Sure. So she comes out with, like, a tray full of small glasses of milk, And then next to it is, like, four or five small glasses of something that is most definitely not milk.

Rolo (Phil):

What color is it?

Guide (Chris):

It's got this weird grayish reddish color.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I think it's fun if we just drink it and let it be a surprise. I love surprises.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. I pick up the grayish reddish milk, and I hold out my glass.

CAM (Tito):

I have a feeling that's the trout milkshake.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Just do it! Just just believe in yourself. Just don't ask questions!

Rolo (Phil):

To adventure!

Squawk (Madeleine):

Adventure!

Rolo (Phil):

Gulp, and I drink it.

CAM (Tito):

I'm just gonna drink my water.

Guide (Chris):

So you drink it down, and it's, like, very fishy, very kinda oily. It feels kinda little chunky.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, love it!

Rolo (Phil):

I just look at everybody and I try to keep my cool, and then I drink four little glasses of regular milk right away.

CAM (Tito):

I'm gonna run over to Rolo and cast relieve.

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So nice.

Rolo (Phil):

I relieve myself. Oh, wait. Is that not what that does? Then I don't know why that happened.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I don't think you need a spell for that.

CAM (Tito):

Says I say something comforting and a nearby creature, alleviating them...

Rolo (Phil):

Wait. You just say well, you can't just say, I say something comforting. You actually have to say something comforting.

CAM (Tito):

Well, I'm just reading the description of the spell.

Rolo (Phil):

Comfort me!

CAM (Tito):

So I cast relieve, and it's supposed to help alleviate any type of anxiety, pain, or discomfort for one hour. And seeing at his face after he drank that trout milkshake, I I I think he's gonna need some relief.

Guide (Chris):

Yep.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, I feel bad.

Guide (Chris):

It's not your fault.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I just thought we're having fun.

Rolo (Phil):

But he has to say something comforting.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Say something comforting!

Rolo (Phil):

You have to to cast a spell.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Do it!

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

Comfort me!

CAM (Tito):

So I I go to Rolo, and I say, it it'll be okay. It's alright. You don't need to barf all over the place right now.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, wow. I feel so much better. Wow.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I also feel comforted.

Rolo (Phil):

Dudes, everything's gonna be fine. Lysander's probably just fine.

Squawk (Madeleine):

He's probably he probably just made friends. Not as good friends as us.

Rolo (Phil):

This place is so pretty...

CAM (Tito):

Well, I may have overdone it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I think you cast...

Rolo (Phil):

You guys are awesome.

Guide (Chris):

The barkeep's like, thank you. We've tried really hard to to gussy up. I mean, it used to be an old old cafeteria.

Rolo (Phil):

It's like rustic and quaint at the same time.

Guide (Chris):

That's what we were going for. Crustic.

CAM (Tito):

Crustic?

Rolo (Phil):

Crustic.

Guide (Chris):

Crustic.

Rolo (Phil):

Love it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, I'd love a little more of a lagoonu vibe. But, I mean, like, for non bird people, it's fine. I guess it's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine.

Rolo (Phil):

I drink another trout milkshake.

Guide (Chris):

You want another one?

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Alright.

Guide (Chris):

You want a full glass?

Rolo (Phil):

These are actually pretty good now. They're growing on me.

CAM (Tito):

I hate to see what happens when the spell wears off.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Do you have more of the spells? Because I don't I mean, I'm a little stressed. I wouldn't mind some spell magic myself.

CAM (Tito):

What what are you stressed about?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I just mean my future, and I just feel like you guys don't really like hanging.

Rolo (Phil):

Don't hold out on her, man. Come on!

CAM (Tito):

Alright. I I go over to Squawk and say, you know what? You're surrounded by friends. You can relax here. And I'll cast relieve on Squawk as well and relieve her anxiety.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh my gosh. Okay. I feel sort of tingly, little bit tingly. It's like I'm it's like I'm in on back in my lagoon floating in nice warm water and the sunset, and everyone's being nice to me, which never actually happened. This this is good. I feel good.

Rolo (Phil):

High five!

Squawk (Madeleine):

High five! And we miss, and I smack him in the face.

Rolo (Phil):

But I laugh and fall out of my chair. You guys are the best!

Squawk (Madeleine):

This is amazing.

Guide (Chris):

Rolo's got got a pink feather stuck in his nose.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I start flying a bit around the bar, and I just whack into every wall. But I'm because of my eyes issues. But for once, I don't mind. I just keep going. I'm just ricocheting back and forth.

Guide (Chris):

Nice. So you don't notice, but, CAM, you notice, like, as she's flying around, you see this bee come flying in, and she hits them with her wing, and then the bee just kinda tumbles off into the corner, and you lose it.

CAM (Tito):

You guys have a lot of bees around here, huh?

Guide (Chris):

Not usually this time of year. I mean, there's a couple of nests, but nothing nothing too bad.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I don't like them.

CAM (Tito):

They seem to be everywhere here.

Squawk (Madeleine):

They get in my feathers.

CAM (Tito):

Very annoying.

Rolo (Phil):

Dude, they're just trying to they're just trying to live their lives, man.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Right.

Rolo (Phil):

They're just part of the circle of life.

Squawk (Madeleine):

You're right. I suddenly see it all in a different light.

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah, man. Listen. You gotta let them beeee. And then I look around the table waiting for everyone to laugh at that joke. Because it was so awesome.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean...

Guide (Chris):

So little kid comes out with a tray full of bread and cheese and a full sized trout milkshake.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, dude. I'm so hungry right now.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes. Yes. Amazing. Bread and cheese.

Guide (Chris):

With two straws.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Don't do the bread and cheese, but milkshake, let me at it.

Guide (Chris):

There's two straws in the milkshake.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh my gosh. I immediately suck it up really fast using both straws.

Rolo (Phil):

And I go, awwww.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh my gosh. Sorry. And I spit it back into the cup.

Rolo (Phil):

And I look at it and I bend close to the straw and they're like, woah. Wait. Bread and cheese. Dude. And I started eating the bread and cheese and I'm like, woah. This is, wait, this is fresh bread. Have you guys tried it? It's so good.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, I never have, but I suddenly feel like today's the day. I'm never I'm gonna try the people food or the elf food.

Rolo (Phil):

Yes!

Guide (Chris):

What kind of people food?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I mean, it's just not bird food. Let's put it like that. Birds don't eat cheese.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah, what kind of food do you want?

Rolo (Phil):

But breadcrumbs, see. Breadcrumbs.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I don't want...

Rolo (Phil):

I throw breadcrumbs at you.

Squawk (Madeleine):

They get in my eyes, and I fall on the ground.

CAM (Tito):

She's a flamingo, not a pigeon.

Rolo (Phil):

That's not how that was supposed to go.

Squawk (Madeleine):

It's alright, and I get a big hunk of cheese, and I shove it in my beak, but it glues all my beak together because I don't have teeth.

Guide (Chris):

So the inkeep kinda looks at you, CAM, and goes, you all alright?

CAM (Tito):

Ah, yeah, yeah. They just they were just really hungry.

Guide (Chris):

Alright, I I might know why your friend's not around.

CAM (Tito):

Well, yeah, they can be a bit much sometimes. He could be hiding.

Rolo (Phil):

You're saying that we're the reason he left?

Guide (Chris):

I I don't know. I mean, if, definitely you're a lively bunch.

Rolo (Phil):

Well, you know what? You look stressed. Come and sit at our table. You know what? CAM, you should cast relief on her.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes, and I wrench open my beak. Do it. Do it. Do it. CAM!

Guide (Chris):

She's like, no. No. I'm okay. I'm okay.

Rolo (Phil):

You gotta have some of this trout milkshake. Not the one from the glass.

Guide (Chris):

No. I'm good. I I I had some fish earlier. I don't I'm good.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Aw.

Guide (Chris):

I'll let you all get back to your dinner.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. You seem so nice.

Guide (Chris):

Well well, thank you.

Rolo (Phil):

But wait. You gotta tell us about our friend.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Tell us about our friend.

Guide (Chris):

Which friend?

Rolo (Phil):

The one you said that isn't with us.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, what did what did you say his name was?

Rolo (Phil):

Lysander.

Guide (Chris):

Lysander. What's he look like?

Rolo (Phil):

You said you know why he's not with us.

Guide (Chris):

Well, I I just assumed maybe he decided to go have a meal on his own somewhere. I mean, there's other restaurants in town.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well he has us, and we're very good friends, and he likes us a lot. Why would you not want to be with us?

Guide (Chris):

Oh, I don't know. You'll have to ask him.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, man. Were you insulting us?

Guide (Chris):

No. Would I do something...

Rolo (Phil):

Now I've calmed down.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, I'm so bummed out!

Rolo (Phil):

I'm not feeling good anymore. You ruined the vibe.

Squawk (Madeleine):

It's over. Vibe over. Vibe finito.

Rolo (Phil):

And to just sit there frowning at the table.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I start crying.

Guide (Chris):

So while you guys are doing that, Rolo, you see a bumblebee land on CAM's nose.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, dude. Don't move. Don't move. And I try to gently catch the bumblebee in my hands.

Squawk (Madeleine):

But I am less gentle, so I pull out my sword. Because I do not like buzzy things getting in my feathers.

Rolo (Phil):

And I I hold him in my hands. I'm like...

Guide (Chris):

He's in your hands.

Rolo (Phil):

Don't worry, bumblebee, dude. I got you. And I listen. There's a buzz in my hands. And I walk them over to the window, and I chuck him out the window and close the window. Have a good life in bumblebee, dude!

Squawk (Madeleine):

And I throw my knife at the window just in case, and it embeds in the wood beside the window because I don't like bees.

Rolo (Phil):

Dude, what are you doing?

Squawk (Madeleine):

It could've stung you!

Rolo (Phil):

I'm standing right here!

Squawk (Madeleine):

I was protecting you from stingage.

Rolo (Phil):

But you pinned my sleeve to the window.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Sorry.

Rolo (Phil):

That's enough trout milkshake for you, young lady.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, it could have come back. Bees get revenge. It's a thing. It could have come back, and you would have been I was just looking out for you. Okay?

Guide (Chris):

Rolo, your shirt now has a a burn hole in the front, a sword dagger mark in the sleeve where it's got a hole in it.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, yeah. I think it's my style now.

Guide (Chris):

It's weathered.

Rolo (Phil):

Yes. Weathered. I call it gar-bage.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I've heard of gar-bage. It's a whole thing these days. I mean, we do have long johns. You could adapt some some just make some new fashions.

Rolo (Phil):

Maybe we need some, like, new threads. I'm a I'm a ask the innkeeper.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

I go over to the actually, I don't know if I'm fully... I still feel pretty relieved because the whole room is kinda spinning a little bit. Maybe it's the fish tacos.

Guide (Chris):

Milkshake.

Squawk (Madeleine):

There was tacos?

Rolo (Phil):

Oh.

Guide (Chris):

Hah! There was tacos!

Rolo (Phil):

That's gross. Why would you ever have a fish milkshake? Dude!

CAM (Tito):

You drink like three of them already.

Rolo (Phil):

WHAT!?!

Squawk (Madeleine):

You loved them.

Rolo (Phil):

We had?

Squawk (Madeleine):

They're delicious.

Rolo (Phil):

Innkeeper, may I have a moment of your time, please?

Guide (Chris):

Absolutely. What can I do I for you?

Rolo (Phil):

Can... I was wondering if you could possibly point me, my friends, to a haberdashery or another place that sells articles for this the wardrobe I'm having a wardrobe malfunction with my shirt? I need another one.

CAM (Tito):

I I I think, you know what? You you might need to just go to your room, get your bath.

Rolo (Phil):

You go to your room!

CAM (Tito):

Relax a little bit.

Squawk (Madeleine):

You tell him. Tell him. He's always telling us what to do with oil guy.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. You know, guys, I was I had a gonna... I think gonna go to my room.

Guide (Chris):

So as you're you're going to the room the innkeeper comes over, hey. You may wanna take this with you. She handed you a bucket.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. You guys I love you guys. You guys are the greatest, and I fall asleep on the couch.

Guide (Chris):

There is no couch.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Aw.

Guide (Chris):

You think there's a couch...

Squawk (Madeleine):

There's a...

Guide (Chris):

What do you what did you fall asleep on?

CAM (Tito):

A table?

Rolo (Phil):

I don't know. I'm out. It looked like a couch when I was falling.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, he's so cute, but he's and I grab a little, like, tablecloth, and I cover him up because he's my friend.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So ut Jojo at the bar is like, can you get your friend off me?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, so embarrasing...

CAM (Tito):

I'm gonna pick up Rolo and fling him over my shoulder and start heading towards the rooms.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I didn't know you were shoulder flinging type. My goodness. This is...

CAM (Tito):

Elves are pretty light, ah, unfortunately.

Squawk (Madeleine):

And I'm alone now, I guess.

Guide (Chris):

So So, Squawk, you're by yourself.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yep.

Guide (Chris):

In the tavern. So the the inkkeep comes over. You need anything else?

Squawk (Madeleine):

If you could just give me a yell if you see any bees because I saw a bee and I don't want it to come back. So I'm got the I've got my knives out. As my friend was saying, though, we could use some fashion help.

Guide (Chris):

There's a general store in town. Jerry's Goods.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay. We'll probably go there. And if you have any useful information of any kind, now's the time. Give it to me.

Guide (Chris):

What can I tell you? I mean...

Squawk (Madeleine):

Useful stuff.

Guide (Chris):

Useful stuff. Well

Squawk (Madeleine):

Who ornery guy. Should we go find ornery guy?

Guide (Chris):

Trevor? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, again, I I'd talk to him tomorrow. I wouldn't talk to him this evening.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Alright. So this evening.

Guide (Chris):

But he knows the port, and he definitely knows ship repairs. But, you know, he's not really he doesn't really have great bedside manner.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, I feel you. Okay. I know his type. Okay. So, I mean, my friends are kinda down for the count. So I think maybe I'm just gonna go have a little snoozeroo snoozeroo, and we'll go see Trevor tomorrow. You could send some more of those trout milkshakes up to my room.

Guide (Chris):

Tonight or tomorrow?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. Tonight. A little nightcap.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. Sure.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. Just keep those doors closed because I don't want any bees in here.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. Will do. So as she points you down the hall. CAM, you you drag Rolo down the hall. Just a small hallway. There's, like, three or four rooms off on this side. There's some stairs going up, but there's nobody else at the place other than you guys. So.

CAM (Tito):

I am gonna drop him off at his room and then head back downstairs and and tell the front desk. Hey, Keep an eye out for Lysander. If he comes here, you know, let him know that we're here. And he's about this tall.

Guide (Chris):

Mhmm.

CAM (Tito):

He has lots of tattoos of animals. You you'll recognize him.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. Yeah. Seems like somebody would be hard to lose someone like that.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. We don't know where he went.

Guide (Chris):

So I'm sure somebody will see him.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That's a little weird.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Alright. Well, you all have a good night.

CAM (Tito):

Alright. I'm gonna grab some of the vegetables from the table and head to my room.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So you guys all crash for the evening. You wake up in the morning, feel pretty good. On the the the bed stand next to each you is a a milkshake, and it's been kinda sitting there for a while.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Nice!

CAM (Tito):

I just dump that in the garbage.

Squawk (Madeleine):

My favorite. Save it for me. I knock on their doors. If you guys have a milkshake, just save it for me.

CAM (Tito):

It's warm.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Perfect.

Guide (Chris):

The room it smelled up the rooms a little bit too.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Perfect. Mmmm.

Guide (Chris):

The Shadetree isn't like a fancy resort. Rooms are cozy. It's well kept. I mean, it stinks like trout now. But the beds were comfortable, and they're warm. You'd like to stay in bed longer, but you smell some fresh baked bread wafting in from underneath the door. Tempts you to go and go see what's going on. So you head back downstairs. Common room's pretty quiet when you come down. And sitting at one table, you see a disheveled looking Lysander.

CAM (Tito):

What? Where have you been?

Rolo (Phil):

Woah. Lysander, you look like I feel.

Squawk (Madeleine):

You know what? I think he needs... he needs to relax.
