S01E05 - This Ship Needs Everything

Guide (Chris):

Welcome back to Legend Lunchbox. When we last left the crew, they had been swarmed by a horde of tiny sap covered thieves who tried to steal the parts of the Distress right out from under them. After scaring the critters off and a fitful first night of rest, the morning arrives uncovering just how bad off the ship is. As if to prove the point, Rolo discovers that he shouldn't be wiping random liquids leaking from the ship onto his shirt.

Guide (Chris):

So your fingers are no longer burning, but as you guys are standing there, you're looking at Rolo and you see, like, a little spot in the shirt slowly getting bigger and bigger as a, like, a hole starting to grow in his shirt.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Rolo. Rolo.

Lysander (Jay):

Rolo. Rolo. We gotta get that... take that off.

Rolo (Phil):

Dude. Dude. My shirt! Dude. Dude!?!

Squawk (Madeleine):

We... is there any water nearby?

Guide (Chris):

There's a, like, a barrel with a bunch of water in it that's up against the side.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I feel suddenly very heroic, and I grab the barrel, and I throw it with all my considerable might right at Rolo.

Guide (Chris):

The whole barrel?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes.

Lysander (Jay):

Oh No.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm impulsive. I panicked.

CAM (Tito):

She's not even splashing the water. She just throwing the whole barrel to knock you out.

Guide (Chris):

Rolo, you look up, but as your as your the your torso is starting to catch on fire, a barrel is flying at you.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm saving you.

Rolo (Phil):

No! I assume I got hit by the barrel.

Guide (Chris):

Well, I'll let you try and dodge it if you want.

Rolo (Phil):

How does one dodge a barrel when your shirt is on fire?

Guide (Chris):

That's a good question. You can roll a D20 and we could see what happens.

Rolo (Phil):

Alright. Here we go. I rolled the two.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. Two is a failure.

CAM (Tito):

Yep.

Rolo (Phil):

I do not think I'm dodging this barrel.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. So you go to dodge the barrel, and the barrel clips you upside the head. It's like, doink! And as you fall, you, like, just kind of face plant down into the ground. And as you do that, like, the barrel smashes.

Guide (Chris):

And as it smashes, it blows the hat off the top of the pipe. And all of sudden, this black goo starts shooting out of the pipe, and everywhere it's hitting on the wood. It's like sizzling.

Squawk (Madeleine):

This is not what I planned.

Lysander (Jay):

And your shirt's still burning.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Your shirt's still on fire.

Rolo (Phil):

I can I roll around in the water?

Guide (Chris):

Sure. Yeah. That'll put it out.

Rolo (Phil):

I roll around in the water.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. You've got a hole about the size of a grapefruit in the front of your shirt.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, dude. I got this shirt special too, it was tie-dye.

Lysander (Jay):

Was air conditioning.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm a little I'm sort of sorry. I didn't mean that to go the way it did. But you're alive.

Guide (Chris):

So yeah. So the the pipe is shooting out like...

CAM (Tito):

Spewing stuff everywhere.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. There's black liquid goo with some steam. And as it's hitting the sides of the ship, it's like sizzling the wood.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. So that's not oil.

Guide (Chris):

No.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. So we should catch...

Rolo (Phil):

That's not oil. Don't touch it.

CAM (Tito):

Well, we We gotta plug up the leak again now.

Rolo (Phil):

We gotta fix it. That captain's hat is probably no good anymore.

Guide (Chris):

There's not a whole lot left of it. I mean, you pick it up for you, like, you pick it up, and as you pick it up, like, the whole inside of the fabric part just kinda falls to the ground and goes and you're just holding the brim like the outer band.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh.

CAM (Tito):

So is there anything nearby that we can use to...

Guide (Chris):

I mean, there's all sorts of debris and and and junk down here.

CAM (Tito):

Probably need, like, a thin sheet of metal or something that we could bend around there.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. You could probably find it. Who's gonna who's gonna try and patch the pipe?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Feathers. Again, feathers. I don't like the steam goo.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. Me me and Lysander, we're gonna grab a a sheet, and we're gonna kinda try to wrap that thing, you know, take one end each and try to bend it around the hole.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Go.

Lysander (Jay):

Yep.

Guide (Chris):

I envision the two of you in the hold. One on each side of the sheet just charging at the pipe.

CAM (Tito):

Yep. I'm just running using it as a shield for all the stuff splattering at us.

Guide (Chris):

One of you roll D20. You guys pick who gets the roll.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I believe in you.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. Let's see. 12.

Guide (Chris):

12. Okay. Success happens exactly as described.

Guide (Chris):

So you guys run up with the sheet. Tell me how tell me how you patch up the pipe with the sheet of metal.

Lysander (Jay):

I'll hold it together, and you you will affix it. You know, like, I'll just kinda wrap hold it wrapped around and yeah.

CAM (Tito):

So we're we're holding both sides as we go up there to try to stop all the splattering. You know, we get it up against there. We kinda bend it around on each side, and now just trying to find something to tack it on there to hold it in place so everything stops sputtering all over the place and catching on fire.

Guide (Chris):

Alright.

Lysander (Jay):

All the time, we're straddling Rolo, who's still...

Guide (Chris):

Rolling around on the floor?

Lysander (Jay):

Rolling around on the floor.

Rolo (Phil):

And lamenting my shirt. I'm more upset about the shirt than anything. Even the barrel. I don't care. This is the shirt.

Rolo (Phil):

Dude, I got it on sale.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I am cheering them on from a safe distance.

Guide (Chris):

You guys are able to patch the pipe and, like, really kinda seal it up good and no more hissing, no more gurgling, burning goo.

Lysander (Jay):

Good job.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I knew you'd do it. I knew it. I I want a high five too.

Lysander (Jay):

Alright. High fives.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Even though I did zero.

CAM (Tito):

Let's let's try not to break anything else on this already busted ship.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Listen...

Guide (Chris):

So while you guys are down here, I mean, you definitely can tell I I mean, like, during the flight, everything down here was, like, all noise and everything was moving around. Now everything's a little bit easier to kinda pick out. There's kinda like an uneven hum coming from somewhere underneath the floor. And every once in a while, you hear, like, this grinding sputter that comes and goes.

Guide (Chris):

Kinda like the the ship's, like, got, like, a clogged filter or something somewhere. The broken pipe is now sealed up.

CAM (Tito):

The engine is still trying to run after all this time?

Guide (Chris):

I don't know. So the the the broken pipe is still is sealed up. You know, there's some access panels hanging open. There's pipes. There's some control rods and wires and all sorts of pressure gauges all over the place.

Guide (Chris):

Like, whatever the space does, it doesn't really feel like it's an engine room. It feels more like somewhere that, like, the ship tries to balance or, like, maintain lift, if that makes any sense. Because, like, a lot of the gauges you see talk about, like, you know, pressure up and down and and that sort of stuff.

Squawk (Madeleine):

It's a maintain lift room.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. And there's, like, some level you know, there's some gauges that show, like, how level the ship is. And right now, it's not very level.

CAM (Tito):

Wonder why. Well, we should probably try to find whatever system is still running and shut it down because we don't want anything else blowing up.

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah. We don't wanna waste all of our fuel.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

What does this thing run on? Acid?

CAM (Tito):

I have no idea.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Dreams. Like, dreams.

Lysander (Jay):

No wonder why it crashed.

CAM (Tito):

Most ships either have a sail or some kind of small engine, but we kinda jumped on the ship. We don't know what it has.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

I wasn't I wasn't really given much of a course on how to work the ship.

Guide (Chris):

It was more on how to pull it apart.

CAM (Tito):

Track down where the noise is coming from.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So, I mean, you guys kinda walk around inside and you listen and you kinda eventually hone in towards the back of the ship. There's, like, this large grate. And underneath it, you kinda hear that that noise coming from underneath there.

Lysander (Jay):

Can we lift the grate?

Guide (Chris):

Sure. You pick it up, and as you look down inside, it's like this this little tiny crawl space that goes down, and you just kinda hear, like, this squeaking, rattling noise coming from down there.

CAM (Tito):

If only we had somebody small that could fit down there. Just kinda look over to Squawk.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm on it. I'm on it. I feel really bad about the barrel. I've gotta get some friendship points back. So here we go.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So you climb down into the into the bottom?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Mhmm.

Guide (Chris):

So as you climb down and you kinda wiggle your way in and it's it's just like this little narrow I mean, you can barely fit even though you're smaller than, you know, everybody else.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay.

Guide (Chris):

You kinda squeeze through there and there's just pipes and wires and all sorts of like, you see some, like, broken boards over your head. And as you get further in and as you guys are seeing this, you're just seeing, like, these two little two little feet sticking out of the hole kinda kicking as she's trying to get down and wiggle through there. And as you disappear down around the corner, you see, like, there's this two tanks. Like, looks like one on like, it opens up a little bit, and there's, like, these two big round tanks.

Guide (Chris):

And there's, like, a pipe going between them. And every once in a while, like, you just hear, like, it rattles and then, like, a whole bunch of pressure seems to, like, go from one to the other. You do see a couple of valves and and knobs on it, though.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, I'm gonna turn a valve.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you turn a valve and, like, and suddenly it just goes silent.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm amazing. Did I fix everything?

Guide (Chris):

It seems to have gotten quiet.

CAM (Tito):

Got quiet up here.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I fixed everything. Amazing. Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

Excellent.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So I don't really love it down here. So kinda I can, like, inch my way back up.

Guide (Chris):

Yep. So you pop your head back out.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That was easy. That was easy. Okay. Pop my head back up. And then...

Lysander (Jay):

Did you remember what you did?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I turned a valve.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay. Well, because we may need to unturn it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I can't guarantee that I'll remember what valve, but let's not think about the future. Live in the now.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, okay. How many valves are down there?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Several.

Rolo (Phil):

Uh-oh.

Squawk (Madeleine):

It's fine, it's fine.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So what else do you guys wanna do? So you've kinda checked out, like, the hull or the hold. You've checked around the cabin. There's you still haven't really checked around the outside of the ship or the deck too much.

CAM (Tito):

Is there a a section of the ship that has any kind of a library or...

Guide (Chris):

There were...

CAM (Tito):

...books or something?

Guide (Chris):

It did seem like there was some in the navigation table, and they're just kinda either ripped or missing or I mean, you haven't there's a couple of smaller, like, just regular reading books laying around, but nothing...

CAM (Tito):

I just wanna see if there was, like, a, you know, an airship for dummies or something somewhere.

Guide (Chris):

Well, there there's not a not a pilot's manual laying around, unfortunately.

Squawk (Madeleine):

We looked earlier, didn't we? When we were when we were almost crashing and dying.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Congratulations on your 2134 Airship Deluxe.

Squawk (Madeleine):

It, it's all sticky on the deck. Right?

CAM (Tito):

Well, probably would have dried up by now.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. So up on the deck, damage is kinda easier to see because it's pretty much everywhere. The mast is still standing, but it's not really straight anymore because there's a big crack running through the base of it where it twisted from when you guys impacted into the trees. Sails down heavy in a tangled heap. It's torn in places.

Guide (Chris):

It's streaked with the sap. Some of the rigging is slack. Some of it is snapped, and then some of it's stuck in place where the sap is all hardened around it.

Guide (Chris):

Near the rear of the ship, you actually see one of the small steering fins on the back end of the ship is bent, like, really hard to one side and it's half buried in branches and some hardened sap. And if you try to move, like, the steering wheel, like, the ropes under the deck twitch, but, like, the fins, like, barely move.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh.

Lysander (Jay):

Not good.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That's a lot of work. So what should we do first, guys? We need to desappify, probably. Right?

Lysander (Jay):

I would think we need to rebuild the hold the hull, like, the...

CAM (Tito):

Yeah.

Lysander (Jay):

...body of the ship first.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. So that way those monkeys can't keep coming in here and ripping more parts out. Or squirrels. Sorry. The squirrels.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So smart.

CAM (Tito):

Raccoons, the whatever little primates are out here.

Squawk (Madeleine):

The possibly edible primates.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. Alright. So, Squawk, you do notice that, like, there's a section where, like, you see some of the ropes have been sheared, and you noticed that, like, right where one of them is sheared, one of your knives is stuck in the boards behind it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

And I slowly extract it while no one's looking. I'm little embarrassed, and I secretly reinsert it in its sheath. And does anyone see?

Guide (Chris):

Nope.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Bonus.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Amazing. I just don't want them to be mad at me.

Lysander (Jay):

So, Squawk, you could fly. Right?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes. I'm amazing. I mean, I have some direction problems.

Lysander (Jay):

Well well, I was just gonna say maybe just fly straight up and see if there's anything around like a town.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I can go up, but about the straight part, I will do my best, and we will just if you guys could just not watch, I would appreciate it.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So am I gonna fly up now? I guess I'm gonna I'm gonna go go somewhere.

Guide (Chris):

If you'd like, sure.

Squawk (Madeleine):

We'll do a little stretch for wings. So I'm gonna flap as hard as I can.

CAM (Tito):

How tall are these trees?

Guide (Chris):

Probably 100 ish feet. I mean, some are shorter. There's some taller, but, like, average about a 100. So there's some, like, 75.

CAM (Tito):

Doesn't mean you probably wanna get above the trees to be able to see anything.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes. I do my best. I'm very cross eyed, so there's a lot of back and forth happening, but I gradually make my way vaguely upwards. Do I get above the trees?

Guide (Chris):

So you zigzag your way up and you you get up to where the the flower anchor is if you wanna take a little breather and take a rest.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I would love a breather. Okay. It's so hard. All the zigzagging.

CAM (Tito):

Do we when we're down below, do we just kinda see Squawk ping ponging between the trees as she's going up? Or..

Guide (Chris):

You tell them. Squawk, how are you flying?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I said not to watch.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay. We didn't initially, but then we kinda got curious.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So

Lysander (Jay):

We heard this commotion up there.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, now you know my secret one of my secrets. It's fine. Well, it's not like any of you can fly.

Guide (Chris):

So Squawk, as you're standing on the anchor, suddenly you look up and you see one of the chain links start to slip off the branch.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I...

CAM (Tito):

Can we hear you? How high up is she at this point?

Guide (Chris):

She's about 50 feet up. So, I mean, if she's yelling, you can hear that.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Guys. But while yelling, I also, just in the nick of time, jump off this anchor and continue flapping like crazy. What happens to this chain?

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So...

CAM (Tito):

I gonna be plummeting onto us.

Guide (Chris):

...as she flaps her wings. She takes off, and then, like, you hear, like, and then the, like, the the chain starts spinning around the branch, and then this giant spear of anchor comes shooting down straight towards the ship.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Watch out, watch out, watch out!

Guide (Chris):

What are you guys on the deck gonna do?

CAM (Tito):

Well, it's just flowers at this point. Right?

Guide (Chris):

Well, the the I I don't know exactly what it's called. The outer pieces of the anchor, those are flowers.

CAM (Tito):

Mhmm.

Guide (Chris):

The centerpiece is just like this giant metal spike.

CAM (Tito):

Oh. Oh, I thought the whole anchor was flowers.

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah. I thought the whole anchor was flowers. Okay.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So...

Rolo (Phil):

I duck.

Lysander (Jay):

Try and dive out of the way. Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

Is it coming straight for the ship?

Guide (Chris):

I mean, it's you can't really tell because it's up a little bit, but it is somewhat over the ship.

Rolo (Phil):

Uh-oh.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, did I do it? I'm sorry.

Rolo (Phil):

I I cast force field

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

In a bubble around us.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. And that costs us some adventure points?

Rolo (Phil):

That costs three adventure points.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you cast it, the bubble around you guys, and as you do that, just as you finish casting it, like, the the pointy part of what's left of the anchor, like, hits the top of the force field. It goes ping and, like, shoots off to the side. And then the rest of the chain kinda tumbles and, like, crashes all over the force field as well and just kinda bounces off to the side onto the deck.

Lysander (Jay):

Wow. That was pretty timely spell.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Rolo!

Rolo (Phil):

Woah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Amazing. Amazing.

Rolo (Phil):

Dude, I could still hear my heart beating here. Hold on.

CAM (Tito):

You didn't want any more holes in your shirt, huh?

Rolo (Phil):

I need a minute. Oh, I forgot about my shirt. Dude, now I'm bummed again.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So, Squawk, you keep flying up and flying up, and you get to the top of the trees. And just as you get up there, you, like, get up on a branch and you look, and there's one of those critters, like, right in your face.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Wait. This is me?

Guide (Chris):

And I'm like it just, like, jumps back and, like, scares the heck out of you because, like, you got, like with your cross eyes, you it looks almost like there's two or three of them, like, all over.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That's too many... scary, gross monkey sappers. Like, I don't like it. So I...

Lysander (Jay):

Now's your time to see if they're tasty.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, I was that was sort of a last resort thing option. So I get the heck away from it as quick as I can because I don't want I don't want it sapping me, my beautiful feathers. Does it look friendly? You said they were cute.

Guide (Chris):

It's kinda skittered back on the branch now, and it's starting to, you know, run off. But as it does that, it's like shaking the branches, and the branches are whacking you. And...

Squawk (Madeleine):

It's very rude.

Guide (Chris):

So give me a give me a D20 to make sure you can stay up in the air.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I got a one. Oh, man. I'm a bird. Flying's my whole thing.

CAM (Tito):

Alright. Who's gonna catch Squawk?

Lysander (Jay):

She's gonna bounce off our force field.

Guide (Chris):

Rolo, is your force field still up?

Rolo (Phil):

Ah...

Guide (Chris):

That's the answer.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Is is it, like, a bouncy force field? Like, would I like, just...

CAM (Tito):

We're about to find out.

Rolo (Phil):

I guess I could turn it off.

Guide (Chris):

And so Squawk, you start plummeting towards the ground.

Guide (Chris):

Well, you guys, you suddenly see this pink ball of fire coming at you. What do you guys do?

CAM (Tito):

You can move the force field, can't you, to maybe catch her?

Rolo (Phil):

Ah...It says the field can be any shape that I want.

Rolo (Phil):

I can move it or keep it stationary...

Rolo (Phil):

So, I turn the field into a bowl.

Guide (Chris):

A bowl, OK.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That's so nice.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So she can go into the bowl.

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Thank you!

Guide (Chris):

So, Squawk, you come flying down. And what happens is you hit, like, one side of the bowl, and then you go right up the other side. And then you come back down, go, and you kinda go back and forth, like, a couple of times like a like a marble inside a bowl...

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm gonna barf.

Guide (Chris):

...until you finally, like stop.

Rolo (Phil):

Respect.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I immediately throw up.

CAM (Tito):

She's half piping the force field.

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Squawk throws up, and...

Squawk (Madeleine):

I throw up.

Guide (Chris):

...unfortunately, a pile of vomit in the in the middle of the bowl.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, I can't turn it off. Sorry. Shrimp barf. I have to move it telepathically to the side of the ship and tip it so the vomit falls out, but before Squawk falls out.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm really not helping today? Oh.

CAM (Tito):

And then as she lands, we're gonna be like, well what happened?

Lysander (Jay):

We're all just standing there with our arms crossed like, what happened?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Listen. Your idea well, you had the flying idea. Okay? I didn't volunteer.

Lysander (Jay):

But you're bird.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I know. But I didn't wanna tell you guys about my I just wanted you to think I was all heroic and stuff, and now I'm all embarrassed and covered in barf. Just like my first day of flamingo school. Flamingo kindergarten.

Lysander (Jay):

Flamingo School....

Squawk (Madeleine):

Fighter king. I don't wanna talk about it.

CAM (Tito):

You go to school to be a flamingo, or is it just a school for flamingos?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I come from a league.

Rolo (Phil):

Were you not a flamingo when you started?

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. I just it's we are I come from a race of fierce flamingo fighters, and we go to fighting school when we are small flamingo tykes to learn.

Rolo (Phil):

Why do you call it flamingo school? Why don't you call it fighter school?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I just I don't know. It's what it says.

Lysander (Jay):

Are all flamingos fighters?

Squawk (Madeleine):

It it's what it says on the door. They're all raised to be fighters. It was maybe not the I did not win any prizes. Let's not talk about it anymore. Okay. I didn't do so great. I tried really hard. Anyway.

CAM (Tito):

So while you were up there, did you see anything?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I saw a squirrel. It was creepy. I did not get high enough. Actually, let me ask. Did I get high enough to see anything?

Guide (Chris):

I I mean, not enough to really get a good look around, unfortunately. No.

Squawk (Madeleine):

No. I've accomplished nothing.

Guide (Chris):

No. I mean, you got the anchor down.

Squawk (Madeleine):

The anchor's down. The anchor that is not an anchor. It's a pointy. So sorry, but I did see some squirrels.

CAM (Tito):

So, if if fixing the hull is our first thing that we're going for, I mean, there's plenty of wood and everything all around us. Well, I guess we won't really have nails or nothing, though.

Guide (Chris):

Well, yeah. So if you guys go look at the hull, not surprisingly, the outside of the ship is definitely worse than the inside. The crash tore like a really long gash along one side of the hull. Through the gap, can see some of the inner framework and twisted braces and lines. Along the lower hull, some of the boards and metal braces have, like, a blue gray sheen worked into them.

Guide (Chris):

It's kinda like a mineral dust that's sealed between layers of, like, varnish and wood. Not every plank has that, but the pattern looks to be kind of deliberate, spread across the sections in patches.

Guide (Chris):

And though even though none of you guys are are shipwrights or or sailors, you kinda know the basic idea. Like, skyships are able to stay aloft because there's this material called aziron that's worked into the hull and the frame, and it's spread throughout the whole structure. You know, the systems in the hold where you guys were kind of adjust the lift, but the hull is what keeps the ship kinda aloft in the first place.

Guide (Chris):

So right now, that structure seems to be broken, so you're probably not gonna really be able to lift the ship, like, safely or evenly.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

CAM (Tito):

So not only do we need the wood, then we need to find more of this coating or at least find the pieces that fell off somewhere along the way.

Guide (Chris):

Most likely. Yeah. So, I mean, if you just, you know, fix the hull with wood, I mean, the boat would float on the water, but you need the aziron kinda embedded into the wood to give it that lift in the Azure.

Lysander (Jay):

Mhmm.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Is this something we can find? Can do we have any feelings about whether not we can find any aziron here? Or was it something...

Guide (Chris):

I mean, it's relatively common. It's just you need to find somebody that knows how to kinda work it into the wood, if that makes any sense. So it's just like, you can go outside and find, you know, iron and copper and that sort of stuff, but it's not like you'd be able to smelt it without knowing how to do it, that sort of thing.

Squawk (Madeleine):

We are not very useful.

Lysander (Jay):

No.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Us. We are so we but you said we could go backtrack and see find the pieces that tore off.

Guide (Chris):

Yep. You could.

CAM (Tito):

Possibly.

Guide (Chris):

Definitely find them. So, I mean, even without experience kinda sailing the ship, I mean, you guys are finally, like, taking in the big picture, and it's like the ship's not really grounded because of one part.

Guide (Chris):

It's just a lot of parts. So the lower hull and frame are damaged, those aziron work sections that give it lift.

Guide (Chris):

You know, down in the hold, the systems that actually regulate that lift are leaking and hissing and aren't really behaving normal. Up on the deck, the wheel and the rigging and the mast and all those things are compromised. So even if you could lift, you're not really gonna be able to catch a current or, you know, go anywhere.

Guide (Chris):

And then the navigation instruments are all broken and unreliable. So if you were to you know, you wouldn't really know where you were or how to get anywhere even if everything else was fixed.

Guide (Chris):

So, you know, some of this can definitely be patched, but and it can all be repaired, but none of it's really like a quick quick fix. But at least you guys know what needs to be fixed now.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Bumming me out.

Lysander (Jay):

And what are the chances that this worldlet, as you called it

Guide (Chris):

Mhmm.

Lysander (Jay):

Contains all the parts and pieces that we need to fix it?

Squawk (Madeleine):

In close proximity.

CAM (Tito):

Well, I mean, we might be able to make some makeshift kinda stuff just to patch it up to get somewhere else to do further repairs.

Lysander (Jay):

Let's hope.

Rolo (Phil):

So wait. Recap what we need. Navigation.

CAM (Tito):

We need basically a new ship.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Everything. We need everything. I am so bummed out.

Guide (Chris):

The hull is damaged. Like, you need to replace those pieces that are part of the hull.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. So we need a hull.

Guide (Chris):

Yep. There's something down in the hold, the systems that actually help you with the lift. There's something screwed up there, which is down in the hold.

Rolo (Phil):

We need to be able to float.

Guide (Chris):

Yep.

CAM (Tito):

Yep.

Guide (Chris):

You need to be able to like, the rigging and the wheel and the mast and the sail and all that's busted so you need to be able to go. Alright?

Guide (Chris):

And then navigation...

Rolo (Phil):

We need to... Is that navigation or is that propulsion?

Guide (Chris):

That's propulsion.

Rolo (Phil):

Propulsion.

Guide (Chris):

Navigation is like all the instruments in that navigation desk that was kinda trashed in the, you know, the weird warbling thing. So, like, even if you got everything working, it's like, okay. Great.

Guide (Chris):

We don't know how fast we're going. We don't know which direction we're going. We don't know. I mean, yeah, you can hop on a current and just go where it takes you. But...

Squawk (Madeleine):

Can that weird warbly thing help us? Is it navigationy?

Rolo (Phil):

That was in the floaty room.

Squawk (Madeleine):

The is it a floaty helper device?

Rolo (Phil):

I now understand this ship. There's the floaty room. There's the movie room, not movies, but, like, make it move. There's the where are we? room, and then there's the thing that holds all the rooms together, which we call the hull.

Guide (Chris):

That's that's pretty close.

CAM (Tito):

The gluey room?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. And they're all sticky and broken.

Rolo (Phil):

The box.

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

I'd say we fix the floaty room first so we can lift it up because we gotta fix the keel thing at the back here.

Lysander (Jay):

Wow. That's a big word.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Keel.

Lysander (Jay):

Keel?

Rolo (Phil):

Keel. Yeah. Well, surfboards have keels, dude. I know, the surfboard.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I I have done enough. I don't want to I'm going to just do what other people decide today. I am I I don't have no opinions left. I'm too disheartened by my barf all over myself.

CAM (Tito):

Well, I guess since it's still kinda daylight.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. I mean, it's actually, it's still pretty early. I mean it's early morning.

Rolo (Phil):

Hey, Squawk. I can throw a barrel at you if you want to wash that off.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Listen!

CAM (Tito):

We can probably make out the trail that we kind of, you know, burned through all these trees and everything.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes. Positivity. Yes.

CAM (Tito):

And follow that and see if we could find any of these broken pieces that came off for the floaty part.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. So as you guys start looking around the ship itself, like, now you've kinda stepped away from the ship and start looking outside.

Guide (Chris):

You definitely see that crash trail. It cut through the forest. They're just like broken branches and torn up soil and kinda wreckage and just all sorts of a mess. Now also on the other side of the crash site, you see, like, one really large tree that appears to go up above the canopy. And the bark is kinda rough and ridged, and you see a lot of low hanging branches. So you may be able to climb that or partially fly in Squawk's case.

Guide (Chris):

And then on the opposite side, CAM, you noticed that there seems to be something that looks like an old cut marks in, like, a rusted metal bracket bolted into one of the tree trunks. And you see, like, a little stone marker kinda leaning half covered in moss by it.

Guide (Chris):

So you don't really know where you are, but at least you kinda have a couple of places to check out.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Let's do it together, whatever we do, please.

CAM (Tito):

Wanna check out that mossy stone? Just wipe off the rest of the moss. Is there any kind of writing or something on it?

Guide (Chris):

So yeah. So if you go towards the edge of the crash site, you do see that one tree. It's got, like, an old cut scar. So it looks like somebody, like, was trying to cut the tree down, but it's just been sealed up by sap. And then there's a rusted bracket bolted right above it, kinda almost swallowed up into the bark. And then there's a old cable. Like, now you can see that goes down behind the root.

Guide (Chris):

And then the trail marker, if you look at it, it's kinda like a there's like a weathered crest carved into it, and it's stamped with a it looks like a shield containing, like, a tall tree and a heavy W, like the letter W worked into the the shape. And there's, like, these roots and trunks or roots in, like, the trunk and the letter are kinda all interwoven. And there's a little notch that points in a rough direction of, you know, kind of away from the the this crash site.

CAM (Tito):

And the direction that it's pointing in, does it seem like there's a trail or anything there?

Guide (Chris):

I mean, there's a really I mean, you don't know if it's it's hard to really...

CAM (Tito):

Like, overgrown or something at this point.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah, but It's very faint. Like, it's almost hard to tell. But now that you see where it's pointing, you can kinda make it out.

CAM (Tito):

Okay. I guess I'll kinda relay that information to the rest of the group. So we all kinda know it's there and keep an eye out for any more of those markers while we're searching for the missing pieces of the ship.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, what if it's pointing to builder guys and smart boat guys? There's, like, a calling what if there's, like, a village of ship fixer humans in that direction? And then that's what's

CAM (Tito):

So the question is, you know, do we kinda secure what's left of the ship and then go check that out? I mean, we don't wanna just leave right now and then have those squirrels tear the rest of the ship apart.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Right.

Lysander (Jay):

Mhmm.

CAM (Tito):

Because even if we find some fixie guys, then there won't be a ship left to go fix.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, that'd be embarrassing. I swear it was right here!

Squawk (Madeleine):

But they might be so nice and super fun. Right.

Guide (Chris):

So you could also check out there's the crash trail that you guys left, and then there's that big tree if you guys wanna somebody wanna climb up that.

Lysander (Jay):

I'll go climb the tree.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, boy.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Brave.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So the tree itself is enormous. It's like thick limbs and there's kind of rough bark.

Guide (Chris):

And if you're careful, you think you can climb it. So on the ground, you really just see trunks and branches and the rest of the forest kinda going up ahead. But you think you might be able to see a little bit further out if you get up there. So.

Lysander (Jay):

I'm gonna try.

CAM (Tito):

Turn into one of those squirrelly things and climb the tree.

Lysander (Jay):

Well, I I I have that to fall back on. I'm gonna just try climbing.

Squawk (Madeleine):

We just have to not eat him if he does.

Guide (Chris):

Give me a D20 roll to climb up the tree.

Lysander (Jay):

14.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So you guys are standing down there and you see Lysander kinda grapple with the tree, and it's like, oh, this guy must have climbed trees a lot because he's just like, and he just kinda scoots up the tree. And you you get about you it takes a while, but you get about a hundred, hundred and fifteen feet up. And then as you get above the lower trees, the kind of world opens up in a way you couldn't really see when you guys were coming down in the crash.

Guide (Chris):

So the forest rolls out around you across, like, the curve of this little world, and it's kind of dense and uneven. And there's, like, a blue haze gathered in some of the lower spots between the trees. You could see the crash scar from where you came in looking really small from here, and you can see the broken line of it ending in the ship where all your friends are little dots down on the ground.

Guide (Chris):

In one direction, maybe about a half a day's walk, you see, like, a narrow tower on a stone ridge that rises above the canopy. It's dark and it's weathered, and it's got, like, kinda crooked at the top. And it looks almost like an old lookout that hasn't been used for a long time, but near the top, something juts out like a platform or signal antenna or something.

Guide (Chris):

Further away in another direction, you see a cluster of shapes and buildings silhouetted up against the trees. It's not one building, but several together, like rooflines, old frames, maybe even the edge of a settlement or work site.

Guide (Chris):

And then as you look up above everything, you can see that the sky is definitely not clear. You see dark shapes drifting across the sky. You see stones and splintered wood and pieces of old hulls and all debris that appear to be caught in the currents that surround the place you are.

Lysander (Jay):

K. So as I take it all in, I'm going to try to climb back down?

Guide (Chris):

Sure. Give me a roll. I'll give you ah, I'll give you advantage since you you've already climbed up here. So you get to roll two dice. Tell me the highest.

Lysander (Jay):

I got a 19 or a 17.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you climb right down.

Lysander (Jay):

So, I say, well, there's good and there's bad. The good is there's buildings out there. There's a tower, but it looks like it might be abandoned. And I point into a direction. It's about a day that way or so, looks like.

Lysander (Jay):

And over in this direction, there looks like there was a town. So I just point in that kind of direction.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Was there...

CAM (Tito):

They're in opposite directions?

Guide (Chris):

Probably about not directly opposite, but probably, like, hundred and twenty degrees'ish.

CAM (Tito):

Is this marker pointing in the direction of either of those things?

Guide (Chris):

The marker appears to be pointing generally in the direction of where that tower was.

Squawk (Madeleine):

And there was no sign on the tower that said, like, smart builder guys.

Guide (Chris):

No.

Squawk (Madeleine):

You're sure?

Lysander (Jay):

I I I didn't see a sign on the tower.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So there could be.

Lysander (Jay):

There could be a there could be a sign.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay. Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

But I didn't see a sign.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

So that's what we got.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, that's some stuff. There's some stuff.

Rolo (Phil):

I mean, it would be pretty weird to put a sign, like, in a way that you could read it from this particular tree. Like, it's not good advertising. I ran a hotel. Trust me.
