S01E04 - Crash in the Weepingwoods

Guide (Chris):

Welcome back to Legend Lunchbox. When we last left the crew of the S.S. Distress, they were hurtling through a strange purple mist, caught between shifting currents and learning that the ship does not so much as steer, but go along for the ride. The sail is down, the controls are questionable, and the sky itself seems to be moving around. Now the crew has to figure out where they are going before the Azure decides for them.

Guide (Chris):

But before you can take in anything else, the wind shifts again and you're pushed back into the mist. Wind shifts again, pushing you downward, and then again, pushing you back upwards. There doesn't seem to be any pattern or or direction. It's just force driving the Distress in random directions. And the sky feels weird. It's almost like it's the sky is moving past you instead of you moving through it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Woah.

Guide (Chris):

So let's what are each of you doing? So, Squawk, what are you doing at this point?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, have we, could we ask the wind to just nicely not...

Guide (Chris):

Sure.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Be such a dingus? So I mean, we have don't we have people with powers who can do, like, windy spells? Do a windy spell.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, wait. Okay. Let me see.

Squawk (Madeleine):

If you want.

Rolo (Phil):

I can cast speak.

Lysander (Jay):

Good.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That sounds...

Lysander (Jay):

As opposed to what you were doing before?

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Speak with what?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Mister Wind?

Rolo (Phil):

A nearby creature?

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

I don't believe that wind is a creature.

Guide (Chris):

Does not... you don't think it is.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, I love that vague hint.

Squawk (Madeleine):

But maybe if you speak maybe there's creatures in the wind. What if there's I mean, I'm a bird. Maybe some of my people are out there, and you can I don't know if they could be helpful? But there's mist. Right? Like, can't see everything clearly.

Guide (Chris):

There's, like, purple mist all around you. I mean, you see little blotches that you can see some sunlight out of or or whatever. But...

Squawk (Madeleine):

There could be mist.

Lysander (Jay):

The purple mist, does it is it like, does it have any properties to it? Like, is it sticky? Is it...

Squawk (Madeleine):

Stinky?

Guide (Chris):

No. It just feels like you guys are in this cloud of purple like, it's almost like you're standing in fog, but it's just like, I was just gonna say purple fog, but you know?

Rolo (Phil):

May I suggest purple haze?

Guide (Chris):

Or or rain? It could be rain as well.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Purple rain.

Lysander (Jay):

Great.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

I'm I'm still stuck on the speak. I think I I think I wanna cast it.

Guide (Chris):

Go ahead.

Rolo (Phil):

I think I just wanna try casting it.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you're try and you're trying speak with wind?

Rolo (Phil):

Yep.

Guide (Chris):

K.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Why wouldn't you?

Guide (Chris):

So you cast your spell, cast speak with wind, you sit there and you listen, and you hear whistling.

Rolo (Phil):

Like ?

Guide (Chris):

No. Just like .

Rolo (Phil):

Yep. Well, isn't that what it always says?

Guide (Chris):

Yes.

Rolo (Phil):

Oh, okay.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Always the wind.

Rolo (Phil):

But I get to speak inside the creature's mind. So I say, dude, chill.

Lysander (Jay):

And suddenly it gets really cold.

Rolo (Phil):

At least we know.

Guide (Chris):

It turns into hail.

Rolo (Phil):

So did it chill?

Guide (Chris):

I mean, for a moment, it feels like like things just slow down for a second, and you hear, like, splintering wood and then, like, metal crashing and then a moment of silence. And then you hear the exact same sound over again a second later, kinda like an echo.

Rolo (Phil):

Uh-huh.

Squawk (Madeleine):

An echo?

Rolo (Phil):

Did you guys hear that twice?

Squawk (Madeleine):

We...

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Why? How can there be an echo? Does anyone have echoey powers? Any spells that were I don't think I have any.

Guide (Chris):

Speak with echoes?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Do. Yeah. That's not...

Lysander (Jay):

You can't speak with echoes.

Guide (Chris):

I mean, if you'd would, it would probably say it back.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. I wanna try something.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

I go to the edge of the ship. What do you call it? The rail thing?

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Rolo (Phil):

And I say, hello.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. You yell hello into the wind, and nothing comes back. But as you're standing there, you see some objects coming out of the mist starting to fly by, and they're blurring. And they're just going really fast, and it's hard to track them. But just for a moment, it feels like the objects are hitting the ship, but, like, going through the ship.

Guide (Chris):

And then they're just gone. You know? So it's almost like you see these things come in and so it's like and it but it's just going through the ship.

Rolo (Phil):

Like, through the ship like a ghost?

Guide (Chris):

I I mean, I don't know if you've ever seen a ghost, but that kinda how you would envision it to be. Yeah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

So did this was this haze kind of like a hallucinatey haze? Like, did we inhale too much of the haze maybe? And now we're seeing I mean, you said it was purple. Was it a party haze. I because Alright.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I'm getting kind of impatient. I am not and I feel like I've been sort of useless. I'm gonna throw some knives in aimlessly ahead of me into the mist. Just just to show everyone that I can do it.

Guide (Chris):

So you're throwing knives in front of the ship that's moving really fast?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yes. Yes.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. Awesome.

Squawk (Madeleine):

But I throw them in a really cool way.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

CAM (Tito):

I'm saying this is not gonna end well.

Lysander (Jay):

No.

Guide (Chris):

So go ahead. Give me a D20 roll as you you pull out your knives and you're like, shoo shoo shoo.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Four. Four.

Guide (Chris):

You said four?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yep.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you throw them and it's like, and they go flying out. And, like, one of them goes flying out and it hits, like, a piece of the deck and just jams itself in. The other one flies out and then kinda slows down and then starts coming back towards you guys. So everybody roll off. Don't get the lowest number. Roll D20.

Lysander (Jay):

Oh.

CAM (Tito):

Well, am I am I still downstairs?

Guide (Chris):

Oh, yeah. You're still downstairs. So, CAM, you don't have to roll. Sorry.

Lysander (Jay):

I'm still hanging on to the rope.

Guide (Chris):

Yep.

Lysander (Jay):

And I rolled a one.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I rolled a 14.

Rolo (Phil):

And I rolled a three.

Guide (Chris):

Squawk what did you roll?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I got a 14. I'm good.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So...

CAM (Tito):

The knife is gonna go back and cut the rope?

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. It starts spinning end over end, and then it's like, shoo. And it goes, like, right over your head and just slices the rope. And as it does that, you, like, tumble down into the ground of the deck and you roll backwards.

Lysander (Jay):

Thanks, Squawk.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Sorry. So sorry.

Lysander (Jay):

Twice now.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I know, but I looked so cool when I threw them.

Guide (Chris):

It was kinda cool how it, like, stopped and then came back.

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah. That was really cool.

Squawk (Madeleine):

But it's kinda magicy. So...

Guide (Chris):

So, CAM, what are you doing down below deck?

CAM (Tito):

I guess I'm hearing all this commotion going on upstairs and you know.

Guide (Chris):

You just heard something fall on the deck and then roll halfway across the deck.

CAM (Tito):

Yeah. And I I'm assuming I would feel the ship kind of out of control at this point.

Guide (Chris):

Yes. For sure.

CAM (Tito):

So I'm just gonna come, you know, running upstairs. What the heck is going on up here?

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So as you run up the stairs, the four of you are standing up on the deck, and the blurs around the ship start to take shape ahead of you. And you don't just see a few pieces of debris. You see the the purple haze start to peel away a little bit, but you see hundreds of pieces of debris.

Guide (Chris):

You see broken wood, twisted metal, chunks of stone, and some old beams whirling around like structures that really shouldn't be in the sky. The ship flies through this, like, big field of wreckage, and all of it's drifting at all different directions and speeds. And just as you're standing there, like, a big fragment of dirt and scrub covered land drifts past the ship close enough that, like, a whole bunch of clods of dirt, like, smash down across the deck, and then it vanishes off behind you.

Guide (Chris):

Further out, you see larger shapes in the haze, wrecked ships, broken platforms, and things that are probably too big to dodge if you don't see them. But then finally, the ship feels like it's beginning to respond again just barely.

Guide (Chris):

So, Rolo, what are you gonna do?

Rolo (Phil):

First, I'm gonna, like, wipe my brow because, dude, that was so close. Then I think maybe somebody should be holding on to the wheel. So I'm gonna go to the wheel.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. CAM, what are you gonna do?

CAM (Tito):

I'm just kinda discerning what's going on. I see Rolo heading towards the wheel. I see the sail. Is the sail down at this point?

Guide (Chris):

Yes, it is down.

CAM (Tito):

Is it under control? Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

It's down, I wouldn't say it's under control.

CAM (Tito):

I'm gonna head towards the front of the ship to try to see if I can make out anywhere that we can try to land or something.

Guide (Chris):

Squawk, what are you gonna do?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Is the mast broken or no? We didn't break it?

Guide (Chris):

No. Thankfully, Rolo didn't get to chop it down.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Are there any, like, oars around that I can grab?

Guide (Chris):

I mean, there's broken pieces of wood, like, from crates and and barrels and stuff.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Great, I'm gonna grab one of those. I don't like all this stuff flying at our ship, and I'm gonna defend my friends because I kinda mess things up with the knives, I'm super embarrassed. So I'm gonna go to the front of the ship with a big piece of wood, and I'm gonna whack away everything I can find so my friends don't get hurt. Everything coming towards us. I'm gonna be...

Guide (Chris):

Okay. Lysander, what are you doing?

Lysander (Jay):

So I've had it with this on the deck stuff, so I'm going downstairs now.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. You're gonna go all so, again, you got the cabin. It's kind of midship.

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah. I'm gonna go all the way down.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. You're gonna go down into the hold.

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

And you do see, like, this blue spot where there's a big hole, and then you just see, like, junk all over the place.

Lysander (Jay):

So there's no, like, in like, an engine or nothing that's...

Guide (Chris):

You don't see anything, no. I mean, there's definitely a lot of mechanics and, you know, pipes and rigging and wires and stuff. Most of them are in a pile because Rolo pulled most of them out. So speaking of which, Rolo, what are you doing?

Rolo (Phil):

I'm holding on to the wheel.

Guide (Chris):

Messing with the wheel?

Rolo (Phil):

And steering.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you grab the wheel, and as you start to turn it, for a moment, the ship almost feels like a ship again. The wheel has a little bit of weight to it. You know, the rigging as you guys starts to respond a little bit. And while it's still tilted, everything is still shaking, and the ship really sounds like it's about to come apart.

Guide (Chris):

It feels like there's a little bit of a difference now. You have a little bit of control, but not really enough to choose where you're going, but at least to know where you're heading.

Rolo (Phil):

I am thrilled with that small amount of progress.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So, Squawk, are you still trying to whack stuff? Because CAM's at the front of the ship.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm still whacking stuff, but it's not really helping at all, and I don't have very good aim.

Guide (Chris):

Mean, I you are knocking a few things that are coming towards the ship. You're, like, batting them away.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. I knock a few things away, but I take a look around to see if anyone did could Rolo use some help steering, do we think?

Rolo (Phil):

I got it. I'm good.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay. I'm gonna keep

Rolo (Phil):

I just need to know where to steer.

Squawk (Madeleine):

What?

Guide (Chris):

So, CAM, as you're standing at the front, like, through the debris ahead, there's a darker shape that begins to form. And at first, it looks just like another piece of wreckage or maybe like a cloud bank, but then it starts getting bigger. But whatever it is, it seems huge.

CAM (Tito):

Hey. Hey, Rolo. Around two o'clock. Looks like there's some a mass over there. Maybe we can land.

Rolo (Phil):

We're going pretty fast. You want me to steer towards the big thing?

CAM (Tito):

It's either I don't know. I mean, it's either we we we find somewhere to land or we just keep drifting forever, and it seems like the ship is falling apart. I don't know how long we can last up here.

Rolo (Phil):

True.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Is this thing big enough for us to land on it?

Guide (Chris):

I mean, it is getting bigger. You don't see what it is, but it looks bigger than anything you've seen so far.

CAM (Tito):

Maybe we need to figure out how to slow down a little bit.

Guide (Chris):

Lysander, what are you doing in the hold?

Lysander (Jay):

So the pipe that was the that has the hat on it now.

Guide (Chris):

Yep.

Lysander (Jay):

Can I follow it to see where it goes?

Guide (Chris):

It's like it zigzags down into the wall, but then you see if you look around, there's, like, just a bunch of holes in the sidewalls, and you can kinda follow it.

Lysander (Jay):

I'm gonna follow it.

Guide (Chris):

K. So you follow it, you follow, and then it kinda goes up. And then it looks like it loops back around and comes down to where it's broken going into the top.

Lysander (Jay):

So it doesn't there's no it just kinda circles around?

Guide (Chris):

It looks like it. Yeah.

Lysander (Jay):

So I don't I can't find where the steam is actually coming from.

Guide (Chris):

Well, there's no steam now because there there's a captain's hat jammed in it.

Lysander (Jay):

Right, but...

Guide (Chris):

But, yeah, I mean, you can't I mean, it could there could be, like, a T-valve or something somewhere that you just can't see in the wall.

Lysander (Jay):

I am going to shape shift, into a spider.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, okay.

Lysander (Jay):

And I'm gonna follow along the pipe.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you shape shift down into a spider, and you're like vroop, and then you start crawling into the wall. And you look around, and it it's huge in here. And it's like it seems like there's a maybe, like, a six inch gap between the outer hull and the the inner piece.

Guide (Chris):

And then there's just pipes and wires and rigging and ropes and all sorts of stuff in here. So you start climbing up the pipe. Squawk, what are you doing?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I'm getting a little tired of whacking, so I'm gonna choose to I'm gonna put my whacking stick down. And I wanna, like, get a better look at this thing we're approaching. So I you know, since I'm a bird, I am gonna try and fly up a little bit above the ship so I can get a better view of what this thing is that we're that we're headed towards so we can decide whether or we're gonna land on it. So I'm, like, 20 feet above the ship.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you fly up and you you feel like you're getting pulled back a little bit. But as you get up higher, the shape starts to sharpen a little bit into view, and it's not just a patch of land. It looks like a small round forested worldlet, like a little tiny world.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh, it's very cute.

Guide (Chris):

And it's wrapped in, like, a faint blue haze.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh the haze. More haze. I don't like the haze. Okay. So I'm gonna fly back down. I saw a blue worldlet wrapped in haze. I'm telling you guys.

Guide (Chris):

Rolo, what are you doing?

Rolo (Phil):

If we plow into this worldlet at the speed we are going, what do you think our chances would be?

Guide (Chris):

Probably not great.

CAM (Tito):

I'm just gonna start writing down a bunch of numbers. How does two sound?

Rolo (Phil):

That sounds great. I turn the wheel as hard as I can, and I'm gonna try to do a donut to, like, sort of slow the ship down. Maybe.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you you turn the wheel real hard. And just as you do that, Lysander, you suddenly feel like, woah. You start flying, and you, like, shoot some silk out to try and grab onto a pipe, and you just start dangling as the ship, like, starts wheeling off on the side.

Rolo (Phil):

This is the second time you've done that exact move.

Guide (Chris):

I know.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That's true.

Guide (Chris):

You gotta stop getting stuff with string and and wires and ropes.

CAM (Tito):

I'm gonna run toward the mast and try to see if I could yank down the sail to slow us down.

Guide (Chris):

Well, the sail is down right now.

CAM (Tito):

Well, I mean, you know, but yeah. But yank it off the mast.

Guide (Chris):

Oh, okay. So as you do that, you...

CAM (Tito):

We can't roll it up because the rope is cut.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Yeah. So you feel like even as you're doing that, it just feels like you're getting pulled faster and faster towards this object.

Lysander (Jay):

So as I'm swinging, can I see any kind of controls or any

Guide (Chris):

I mean, there's lots of valves and knobs and bolts and all sorts of...

Lysander (Jay):

Is there room for me to to, like, go back into my human form?

Guide (Chris):

Not in the wall. No. Well, I mean, you can. I wouldn't suggest it.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

Guide (Chris):

Like So I said, it's only about six inches wide between the the two.

Lysander (Jay):

And there's all these knobs and wires and all that stuff in this little six inch?

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's just kinda like all the the mechanics of the the ship, you think. So are you gonna turn back into a human?

Lysander (Jay):

Not in this space. No.

Guide (Chris):

Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

I'll I'm gonna crawl back up to where I've started and

Guide (Chris):

Turn back into a human?

Lysander (Jay):

Yeah. Yeah. Make my way up to the top.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you guys all get back up onto the deck and you feel a ship continue to be drawn towards it, and suddenly you just start speeding towards it almost out of control. Like, Rolo, you had control of it, but then as you're starting to pull this, it's or, like, spin the wheel, you suddenly feel like you've lost like, it's just too sluggish, and it's not really turning. Like, even though the ship is turning, you're still being drawn straight towards this little world.

Rolo (Phil):

Man, flying a ship is hard. I feel like this ship has done absolutely nothing that I wanted it to do.

Squawk (Madeleine):

It's the worst ship.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. You broke most of the electronics and the radio. So

Rolo (Phil):

Dude, it was my job. If I knew I was gonna be flying the ship later, I wouldn't have done it.

Guide (Chris):

So as you guys get closer, you start passing through clouds and into the open air. And then for a few seconds, you actually see this land laid out in front of you. You see forest covering nearly everything. It's dense and uneven, and it's dark green, and it's definitely wild. It's not really untouched, but there's not a whole lot of settlements in a significant way.

Guide (Chris):

In the distance, you see something narrow rising up above the canopy of the trees, and it looks like a rough tower or a lookout, but it seems like it's built high enough to be above the top of the forest. And then further off, kinda too far to make a way really clear, you see a cluster of shapes. They might be structures or ruins, maybe the edge of a settlement. But as you're looking, the ship starts to roll awkwardly again, and then the view disappears as the forest starts to rush up beneath you.

Guide (Chris):

You don't really see a clear landing site. There's no open field. You don't really see a safe place to put the ship down, just trees. So right now...

Lysander (Jay):

Not that we knew how to do it anyway.

Rolo (Phil):

Yeah. Not like we could steer towards any kind of safety.

CAM (Tito):

Aim towards that tower to slow us down.

Guide (Chris):

Are gonna you try and control the ship? Are you gonna try and protect yourself? Are you gonna try and brace for impact? What are you gonna do?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Should we go somewhere with or is there some soft stuff? Maybe we could do a little group hug situation down below somewhere safer.

Guide (Chris):

I mean, there's a giant pile of metal in the hold.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That is not soft.

Guide (Chris):

No. There's a couple of hammocks in, like, in the cabin.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I do...

CAM (Tito):

I mean, it's probably safer down in the cabin than it is up on the deck.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. I feel like...

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. I got a plan. I got a plan. Everyone, come to me. Wait. Where where's Lysander gone?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh.

Lysander (Jay):

I just pop up from the from below.

Rolo (Phil):

Okay. Lysander, come on over here. Okay. Everybody gather around. I'm gonna cast Pegasus Cloak on everyone so we can float.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

Rolo (Phil):

On the count of three, we're gonna jump in the air. One...

Lysander (Jay):

Okay.

Guide (Chris):

So the tree line kinda rushes up to meet you, and, you know, you just see these big green trunks and branches. And, Rolo, just as you cast your spell, the ship slams into the upper canopy, and it shears off branches and leaves explode around you.

Guide (Chris):

The mast smashes into a big tree trunk, and you see, like, this thick pale sap spraying out of the wounded bark, and it winds like these sticky strands all around the branches and rigging and and mast. You bounce off another trunk, and you careen through the trees as, like, wood splinters, metal groans. The ropes snap.

Guide (Chris):

And then with a roar, the ship crashes down through the lower trees and slams into the ground, and dirt and brush and roots kinda tear up all in front of you as you guys slide to a halt.

Rolo (Phil):

And jump. Sorry. I was a little late on that.

Squawk (Madeleine):

This is a good try.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. So, I mean, I think you guys with the Pegasus cloak, you were were able to make it I don't wanna say gracefully, but you guys were able to basically avoid getting hurt in the crash. So you guys are down on the ground next to the ship, and you just you hear, like, the sounds of the ship settling. You hear, like, wood popping and some metal straining, and you just see a couple of things fall off of the deck.

Guide (Chris):

And then you smell like this crushed pine smell, like wet soil, some hot metal, and then something kinda sweet and syrupy. So you're all on the ground looking around in this giant forest, and the Distress is definitely in distress next to you. What do you each do?

Rolo (Phil):

High five.

Lysander (Jay):

High five.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Just some high fives.

Rolo (Phil):

We need the high fives for that landing.

Guide (Chris):

For sure. That was a great landing.

CAM (Tito):

Very, very good quick thinking, there Rolo. Yeah. I'm super excited to be alive, so I bust out my little mini boombox, and I play some tunes. Have a little dance moment. I hope people will join me.

Guide (Chris):

I don't know. Will you guys join Squawk...

Rolo (Phil):

I totally joined the dance party.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Staying alive. Stay because we're still alive. Pretty thrilled to be alive. So some dancing. I mean, we're sore. I force everyone to dance with me. Even though they're not into it. I grab hands. I do that hand grab thing where everyone's trying to stay still, but I force it.

Guide (Chris):

So you guys take a breath after your little dance party, and you look around and look at the ship, and you kinda wonder, like, I don't know if this thing's ever gonna see the Azure again. It's definitely not going anywhere right now. But do you guys wanna try and figure out what's broken? Do you wanna look around the ship? Do you wanna look around the area? Like, what do you wanna...

Squawk (Madeleine):

I never wanna see this ship again.

Lysander (Jay):

I think we should look around the area.

CAM (Tito):

Can we see kind of, like, what time of day it is or anything like that?

Guide (Chris):

It seems to be, like, late afternoon, early evening-ish. Like, the sun is low in the sky. So, I mean, there's still some sunlight, but you don't know for how long.

CAM (Tito):

So we're probably not getting anywhere anytime soon looking at this ship over here, and it's starting to get dark. Well, you might wanna think about setting up camp or something here. We don't know where we are, what else is on this island.

Rolo (Phil):

We could roast marshmallows around this part of the ship that's still on fire.

CAM (Tito):

You have marshmallows with you?

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, I have, like, a little party pack full of snacks, so who even knows what's in there? We can roast something. There's shrimp. I got I got roasting stuff.

Guide (Chris):

There's definitely freeze dried shrimp in there.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. I vote roasting.

Lysander (Jay):

Well, we might as well have a party.

CAM (Tito):

So as as Rolo mentioned, I guess, part of the ship is on fire. So I'm gonna grab a bunch of sticks and try to take one of the embers from the ship to make, like, a campfire.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So you you definitely could do that. And you find that this this sap is some of it seems to be hardening pretty quick, but the stuff that's still damp is very flammable.

CAM (Tito):

Oh.

Lysander (Jay):

That's... could be dangerous.

Rolo (Phil):

How how flammable?

Guide (Chris):

Like, you probably don't wanna put the stick with the flame on it too close to that giant tree that has the sap oozing down the side of it.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Okay.

Lysander (Jay):

Well, it'll be a nice big signal fire. We're here!

Squawk (Madeleine):

We'll roast everything.

Lysander (Jay):

I think we should take a little walk around, just a little area, just to make sure, like, there's not, like, a village, like, right there.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Right. Like, where we're camped.

Lysander (Jay):

You know, like, right there.

Squawk (Madeleine):

That'd be so embarrassing.

CAM (Tito):

Well, I I'm sure if there was a village, like, right there, they would be coming over to see us, wondering what just crashed out of the sky.

Lysander (Jay):

Well, maybe they are.

Rolo (Phil):

Should we look under the ship?

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. This is a village of tiny people. Unfortunately, you wiped out their civilization.

CAM (Tito):

Wicked Witch of the East thing going on here.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. So you look around, and and the the ship is definitely carved like this scar through the forest. And it it came through the canopy. It hit a bunch of the massive trunks and and tore a bunch of the branches loose and then hit the ground at like an angle.

Guide (Chris):

And it's just like this jagged wound through the forest. Churned up soil and bark, and there's tangled rigging and scattered ship pieces all over the place. You do see some of that sticky sap, like, beading on the trees, and then ship kinda rests a little crookedly and bowed down and slightly twisted.

Lysander (Jay):

Okay. Alright.

Rolo (Phil):

That's a pretty good landing.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I mean, it could have been worse. Yeah.

Lysander (Jay):

We could have been...

CAM (Tito):

Any landing you can walk away from. Right?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah.

Lysander (Jay):

That's right.

Guide (Chris):

So what else do you guys wanna do around the ship right now?

Rolo (Phil):

I'm gonna just put the fire out, the fire that's on the ship, you know, just for your safety.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Yeah. Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

Yeah. Yeah. It's probably good. You don't want the ship to burn away to nothing.

Squawk (Madeleine):

With all this sap stuff. Yeah.

Guide (Chris):

So you guys put it down. And as you're kinda moving around the ship, Rolo, as you're putting the fire out, you can kinda hear from the hold. You hear, like, this weird humming sound coming from somewhere in the hold and, like, a grinding sputtering sound, but you just don't really know where that's coming from.

Rolo (Phil):

I wonder if we need to turn the engine off.

Squawk (Madeleine):

I thought it wasn't working. Is it working now?

CAM (Tito):

I I think the landing turned it off.

Rolo (Phil):

Well, something's still working. It's okay. I'll just climb into the ship and press some of these buttons.

Guide (Chris):

Okay. So, CAM, as you're walking around, you see, like, one side of the hull has just, like, been completely torn open, and you just see, like, a lot of the inner framework and components through this big jagged hole.

Guide (Chris):

Lysander, as you're walking around one piece of it, you actually, the ship, the way it's kinda tilted, you can see into the the cabin area. And where the galley was, it's just kind of in ruins, and the stove that was there is just gone. Like, you don't know where the stove is, and there's just, a big hole where the stove was.

Lysander (Jay):

That's not gonna be good.

Guide (Chris):

Squawk, what are you doing? You still dancing?

Squawk (Madeleine):

Well, I suddenly noticed no one is near me. I'm dancing alone. So I stopped pretending like I was coming to a natural stop anyway. Have a few shrimp snacks, and I pull out some weapons because you never know who's here. And I suddenly realized I might have to protect my friends. So I walk around looking tough, weapons drawn just in case of, you know, of bad guys. I don't see any, but I just wanna.

Guide (Chris):

You hear something, like, clanging above your head.

Squawk (Madeleine):

In the ship or in the world?

Guide (Chris):

Like, up in the up in the world somewhere.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Alright. So I do some flexing so whoever's up there can see that they should not mess with us. And it's up in the trees. Is that what you're saying?

Guide (Chris):

Seems like it. So you look up and you actually spot about 75 feet up in the air. You see the ship's anchor.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Oh.

Guide (Chris):

Kinda wrapped around a tree and just kinda clanging like a bell.

Squawk (Madeleine):

Right. So I rapidly move away from underneath the the anchor.

Guide (Chris):

That's probably a good idea.

Squawk (Madeleine):

And I go hang out with my friends because now I'm feeling nervous. I go back to the ship. There's no bad guys.

Guide (Chris):

Alright. So as you guys are standing around, the forest around you is quiet. It's not really peaceful. It's just everything seems still. And the last slivers of light dimly glint off of the sticky sap that's running down off of the broken trunks.

Guide (Chris):

And then something clicks softly off to the side. And on a low branch near the edge of the crash site, two bright eyes open up in the gathering darkness, and they watch you. And then another pair opens up in another tree, and then another, and then another.

CAM (Tito):

Ever get this feeling somebody's watching you?
