A patched together ship catches a drifting current of the Azure, its sails pulling tight as the sky itself fills them. Around it, dark clouds clump together ominously, and lands of all different types drift through the sky. Islands of rock, forest, ruin, and stranger things that don't quite belong anywhere. Some are settled, some are wild, and some change the longer you stay. The people who live out here don't rely on maps. They rely on experience, instinct, and whatever's still working today. Because out here, you don't master the Azure, you learn to live with it.
Chris:Welcome to Legend Lunchbox. This is a family friendly, story driven, tabletop role playing podcast. I'm Chris, and I'll be your Guide. That means I shape the world, I play the people in it, and I set the stage for what's happening. As for the rest of the table, they're the ones making decisions and driving the story forward. We don't script the outcomes. We start with situations, problems, ideas. But what happens next is decided in a moment.
Chris:Sometimes things go exactly how the players hope. Sometimes it's not even close. We're using a tabletop role playing game called Quest that was developed by the Adventure Guild. At its core, it's simple. When something matters, we roll a single 20 sided die, and the result tells us how things go.
Chris:At the top end, you might get a triumph, or everything goes perfectly. The next level is a success, which means you get what you wanted and you get it cleanly. Most of the time, though, you land somewhere in the middle. You might get a tough choice, which means the player succeeds, but they have to choose between two not so great consequences. Next, there's a failure, which means things have gone wrong, and I actually get to decide what the complication looks like. And then at the very bottom, there's catastrophe, where things go very, very wrong.
Chris:But failure never stops the story. It just makes things more complicated. Each character also has their own unique abilities powered by something called adventure points that they can earn throughout the game. So when things get tense, players have to constantly decide, do I risk a roll or do I spend something to take control?
Chris:You don't need to know the rules to follow along with us. When the dice hit the table, we'll make sure you know what matters. Our world draws inspiration from the Skycrawl supplement written by Aaron A. Reed. But what we're building together is something we like to call Driftpunk Fantasy. It's a world of drifting lands, shifting skies, and systems that are barely holding together. Things rarely go exactly the way anyone plans, and no one fully understands the forces that they depend on. The story moves through the Azure and across the lands drifting within it into places no map can quite be trusted to explain. It's a place shaped by experience, adaptation, and survival in a world that doesn't make any of that easy.
Chris:So now that you know the world, let's meet the players at the table. They'll be bringing to life a crew of strangers, oddballs, helpers, troublemakers that are just trying to figure out where they fit in a world much bigger than they are.
Tito:Hi. I'm Tito playing a medic called CAM. CAM is the newest model medical bot created by the Azure Mender's Guild. He resembles a normal person, but he has some iridescent blue skin. He is capable of way more tasks than the original medical bots and he hopes to learn to use his skills to the best of his abilities. As a side effect of the way CAM was created, he has a personality unlike the original medical bots and he can make decisions on his own. What will he do now with his newfound freedom from the guild and no guidance from his Guildmeister Gradlak?
Madeleine:I'm Madeleine, and I am playing Squawk in this game. Squawk is a fighter. She's a flamingo, so long skinny legs, long skinny neck, bulging eyes. She is cross eyed, so or wall eyed, so so she has some flying issues. Her weapons and her armor look pretty cool. There's spiked helmet thing going on. There's some ankle spurs. There's some kinda light chain mail happening, but she does have some issues flying straight and slams into a lot of stuff.
Madeleine:Squawk really, really loves her friends. She's never had any, but she's super excited to make some, And she doesn't like bullies. If you're rude to her friends, she'll get really mad.
Jay:Hi. My name is Jay, and I'll be playing Lysander. Lysander is a naturalist in this game. A naturalist is a shaman kind of druid mixed character, deals with nature, shape shifting, that kind of thing. He's a islander type character, grass skirts, grass kind of shawl, very tan, got a lot of tattoos of animals, and he's kind of a straight shooter, you know, doesn't mess around. He's kind of a pacifist. And that's Lysander kinda in a nutshell.
Phil:Hi. My name is Phil. I'll be playing the character of Rolo or his full name Rolodex Moonspiral. Rolo is an elf, you may have heard of forest elves. And you may have heard of high elves, and you may have even heard of dark elves, but Rolo is none of those.
Phil:Rolo is a beach elf. What's a beach elf, you ask? Well, we commune with nature, but not just plants and animals, dude, but, like, the rhythms of nature, like the surf and the tides and the sun and the wind. And beach elves love all living creatures, and we're laid back and chill as long as you're not harshing our buzz. And my epic dream is to build a little beach hotel somewhere out of the way, like, really out of the way, but first I need some money.
Phil:Oh, oh, and I'm also a wizard. So, you know, I have a familiar, which is like a spirit animal I could call, and cast wicked spells, like shield and stuff. And so, yeah, I'm a beach elf and a magic user. You could say that I'm a wizard of the coast, but but don't say that out loud, you know, because of, like, legal reasons.
Chris:This is Legend Lunchbox. Our story begins in a shifting world aboard a patch together ship with a crew of very different heroes trying to figure it out as they go. Let's see what happens.
